Scotiabank donates $.4m to NGOs

By Camille Bethel

Thirty-seven nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) yesterday benefited from Scotiabank’s assistance during the bank’s annual Sustainable Charitable Donations ceremony.

A total of $430,000 was donated to NGOs at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain.

Representatives of the 37 NGOs, including two from Tobago, received cheques from Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Foundation directors.

Chairman of the Foundation Gisele Marfleet said the Foundation saw its corporate social responsibility as a “commitment to shaping a brighter future for Trinidad and Tobago”.

She said 22 per cent of the Foundation’s resources went toward education, sport and mentorship, 17 per cent toward providing breast cancer screening for women who can’t afford it, 30 per cent to sports and culture and 31 per cent to its CSR development.

The National Centre for Persons with Disabilities, the Child Welfare League and the Children’s Life Fund were among the organisations receiving donations.
