ToolsTaran Singh new head of Tunapuna ChamberTaran Singh is the new president of the Greater Tunapuna Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Singh was elected last Friday during the association's annual general meeting at the House of Chan Restaurant, Emerald Plaza, St Augustine. He replaces immediate past president Peter Kanhai, who served for three consecutive terms over five years. In a statement yesterday, Kanhai thanked the board of directors and members for their support over the years, indicating how the Greater Tunapuna Chamber had grown to become a vibrant business organisation. He stressed the need for members of the business community to continue to serve in the development of the greater Tunapuna area and the national community. New president Singh thanked the membership and pledged to continue the work done under Kanhai's leadership. He identified some initiatives, including making representation for a new industrial park, possibly in the Orange Grove area; working with the security services to address the issue of crime in the area and improving the congested main retail shopping area along the Eastern Main Road in Tunapuna and environs. The new board members are: president Taran Singh; vice-president David Edwards; board secretary Nalini Maharaj; treasurer Harold Ramautarsingh; public relations officer Surrindra Maharaj; and executive board members Leana Huntly and Jacqueline Phillip. |
