“Neon colours, bold prints and hot shorts are sizzling for the Carnival season,” said Jennifer Parks, owner of In Excess Clothing, Port of Spain. The Express visited the establishment recently, to see what’s hot for the season.

Showing that skin is definitely in, Parks says knowing how to accessorise your look can have all eyes on you. Looking simple and sweet for Carnival just would not do and can have you feeling under-dressed especially at many of the all-inclusive fetes this year, she said.

“The ‘Plain-Jane’ look has been pushed aside for looks that are more glamorous and sexy,” she added.

“Pick your best feature and show it off. Whether it is your legs, butt, arms, back or cleavage, people are more open to pushing the envelope during the Carnival period with their clothing; however, it is also important to keep it classy and not trashy,” she said.

“Last year the look was more leather and while it is still popular for some customers, this year people are being drawn to more colour and prints,” she said.

She noted that fashion was not just for women but men too.

“It is great to see men really taking more interest when it comes to their attire. The graphic T-shirts and military green vests are really popular. For the women, we carry a wide variety of styles and colours of clothing, however, the most popular items are short. From short shorts to cropped tops and dresses, women are not afraid to show more skin,” she said.
