Make your mark

By A.P.Toussaint

"Then my living shall not be in vain."

"Carry your candle for all to see it. Take your candle – go light your world."

Have you ever been told that no one else does this or that like you do? And yet you still find yourself wondering what you can make your mark with so that your living would not be in vain?

Well wonder no more, and take that signature sign of yours and start using it to the best of your ability to leave a marvelous mark.

Your gift or special way of doing something can be a blessing to so many people, and you may not even realise it as yet.

"Sometimes the very thing you're looking for is the one thing you can't see"—to quote a very popular song. You are searching for something to do that is powerful and will make a mark, and chances are that you were born with it.

Whenever I am asked by anyone what can they do to touch the world, I would reply: "Listen to your heart." It is your heart's longing to do a particular thing that is guiding you along.

Sometimes you may feel as if you are being pulled in different directions, and that is allowed to confuse you. Here's the thing—that can also be a clue—you may need to take all of what may be pulling at you and combine them to make your mark. Hmm.

See yourself as the vibrant person that you already are; let your imagination work for you and not against you.

How does your imagination work for you then? Well when you use it to think of all the wonderful possibilities there are for you and believe that you can make them realities.

Then your imagination is working for you. So when you do the opposite, your imagination is being allowed to work against you, so don't let your great ideas die before they are even given a chance to breathe.

I spend some time each day letting my imagination go wild on wonderful things. It is good therapy and like a clearing session for me when I decide what I am going with and what I am not going with as far as making my mark is concerned.

To do this, it is important to know what your mark is in the first place. Your mark is like a final destination—so the imagining process must help to take you to making that mark.

You must have an attitude of excitement about making your mark because if you do not, it will not be an inspiration to others—and you want to inspire others because if you don't your mark will not be as lasting as you would want or hope it would be.

Making your mark cannot be about making money alone—although that would be an added bonus—but the sense of fulfillment is really priceless.

If we were to consider all those who left a mark on our lives, even and especially those who have passed away, we would realise that what we remember most about them are the loving things they did for all of the people in their lives.

So it is only safe to recommend that if we want to leave a (positive) mark then we should be as loving as we possibly can and sign all our actions with love.

You do have something to leave a memorable mark with. Reaching major milestones are defining moments in your life and can be pointing you to the place(s) where you make your mark. Take nothing for granted as every little and/or large experience is part of a bigger picture.

You can take these experiences and see them as pieces to a puzzle, which when completed by your bringing them all together—will be a thing of beauty that will last forever long after you have gone on. It is called making your life count.

If you have one gift use it to benefit others; if you have several talents/interests, use them in a way or ways that can bless many.

If you know that you were born for a great purpose, then live it. If you can help anyone at all then by all means help who you can. If you can touch a life in unexpected ways, then go ahead. "Reach out and touch somebody's hand, make this world a better place if you can." Whatever you do, be sure that you leave a positive indelible mark after it is done.

"My signature mark is love".

So let us walk on water because weak faith panics, growing faith prays and seasoned faith walks on water in the midst of the storms.

Much love.
