THE second of two mediation parenting workshops hosted by the Ministry of Community Development took place recently in San Fernando.
The workshops addressed the issue of " Drug and alcohol abuse among families."
The venue was Paria Suites and Conference Centre, South Trunk Road, La Romaine. Community groups from Port-of-Spain, San Juan, La Horquetta, Maloney Cunupia and Point Fortin attended.
The theme for the second workshop was " Is My Child a Drug User?"
Community Development Minister, Winston "Gypsy" Peters delivered the feature address. He called for more men to attend such parenting workshops because they played an important role in raising youths.
Seema Persaud, Drug Education Officer with the National Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Programme (NADAPP) presented some facts on Children and Drug Abuse and also facilitated a role play session among the participants.There were also presentations from Mothers Against Drug Abuse (MAD) and Joy Crawford, Principal of the First Impressions Pre-School.
On March 22, a mediation caravan was set up at Chin Kit Park in Point Fortin starting at 10 a.m. Members of the public were invited to participate.
