THE key to a marriage filled with joy, laughter and excitement, is the need to forgive each other.

This according to bonafide marriage expert Rafeeq Ali who will be
celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary on Saturday.

Ali, 62, met his wife Irene Ali, 65, while attending a church in Piparo. They got married on February 24, 1972.

Today, the couple are both full time missionaries helping persons in countries including Sri Lanka, India, Nepal and the Philippines. They have been missionaries for the past 32 years.

They attend the First Church of the Open Bible in San Fernando.

They are parents to three daughters, Rebekah Ali-Gouveia, Deborah Wetzel and Joanna Ali, and have four grandchildren.

Their advice to the newly wed "The secret to a lasting and enjoyable marriage includes loving God with all your heart, soul and mind. Practicing forgiveness as well as discovering what each-other likes and working together to do practical things consistently. One of the main things is you have to forgive each other all the time."

Rafeeq Ali, a former industrial company employee, also advised persons to develop a strong friendship with their potential spouses before getting married.

A thanksgiving service is planned to be held at the Oasis Garden Terrace 101 Circular Road in San Fernando to celebrate the special occasion.
