Anya's engaged

By Nigel Telesford

Project Runway Season 9 winner Anya Ayoung-Chee is now engaged to be married to longstanding boyfriend, photographer Wyatt Gallery. Gallery proposed to Ayoung-Chee atop a mountain while the couple were spending time in New Mexico.

Speaking to the Express, Ayoung-Chee said the proposal came as a complete surprise, but admitted that she said "yes" immediately.

"I am absolutely thrilled," she said. "I said yes of course and we're already planning a true Trini wedding! Life has thrown us many curves and our love has endured... I feel extremely blessed!"

Prompted to divulge more information on the momentous occasion, Ayoung Chee admitted that she did shed a few tears in the moment.

"Wyatt proposed on a mountain ridge in the beautiful desert in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I was completely surprised! I didn't know it was coming. When he got down on one knee, I just started to cry out of pure joy. The sun was setting over the desert and the moment was absolutely perfect."

Ayoung-Chee and Gallery first met during Carnival in 2006 and began dating long before her foray into the fashion industry. Distressed by the leaking of their private video clips onto the Internet in 2009, the couple remained together, but did not appear in public for quite some time.

Throughout her amazing and eventually triumphant stint on the Lifetime TV series, Project Runway, Ayoung-Chee said that Gallery had been there for her "providing moral support" behind-the-scenes. She also revealed their intent to have the wedding here in Trinidad.

"Yes, we'll be marrying in Trinidad," she said. "We want to bring all our foreign friends to our beautiful island. The wedding is still being planned. I've always wanted a big fete, but we'll see what happens..."

Ayoung-Chee assured fans and supporters that the impending marriage would not affect her ongoing efforts and plans to establish her brand in the global fashion industry and revealed her ideal home location.

"I'm absolutely continuing my career as a designer," she said. "No question there. No comment on the kids – haha, but we want to eventually live on the North Coast of Trinidad... That's always been my dream."
