Confident in Curls

By Kimoy Leon Sing

One of the leading brands in hair care, Paul Mitchell, launched its unique range of hair care products designed for women with naturally curly hair to feel confident in wearing their curls without the frizz.

Whether you have loose waves or a head full of bouncy curls, Paul Mitchell's new product line called Curl gives women with curly hair of all textures more options. From styling to maintenance; to cuts and colours, women with naturally curly hair can look forward to products that are designed to be ultra-moisturising without weighing the hair down.

Anthony P Scott invited regional and international Paul Mitchell educators Naval Roberto Quinones and Eloy Cardoza, who worked with local Paul Mitchell educator Roxanne Harnarayan, at the Truth about Curls- Paul Mitchell Hair Show held in the Atrium at Anthony P Scott, Don Miguel Extension Road, San Juan, recently.

Women from various parts of Trinidad and Tobago came out to see for themselves what the new product line could do. The crowd, which consisted mainly of hairstylists, admitted a familiarity with Paul Mitchell products but was extremely excited to see what this new line could offer clients with curly hair.

Apart from seeing the new Paul Mitchell product line Curl, guests also had the opportunity to see the launch of the N+ Gray Coverage series, Syncrolift (Blonding) series as well as the Mitch Man for gents and the reintroduction of the Awapui Wild Ginger.

Approximately 55 per cent of the world's population has naturally wavy or curly hair. From that percentage nearly all of them are searching for ways to keep their hair frizz-free.

According to Cardoza, one the key complaints by women with curly hair is frizz. Cardoza has been a hairstylist for the past 25 years and says what he loves most about his job is the opportunity to be creative and do different things every day.

Cardoza said, "Apart from frizz, women with curly hair worry about hydration and lack of shine."

The Paul Mitchell new Curl line consists of four products that include: a Detangling shampoo, Leave-in conditioner, Twirl Around Crunch-Free Curl Definer and the Ultimate Wave Beachy Texture Cream-Gel. The entire line is designed to hydrate, detangle and tame frizz. It is also humidity resistant and sulphate-free.

Regional Paul Mitchell educator Quinones has been a hairstylist for the past 12 years. Originally from Puerto Rico, he has worked on various hair textures and lengths.

He said, "I have passion for what I do and as hairdressers we have the power to change the way people feel about themselves. Customers may come into your salon sad or upset and sometimes you don't even realise it but just by doing their hair in such a way to bring their natural beauty out, they leave your salon in a different mood they came in. To me that is the most rewarding."

"Apart from curly hair, people with grey hair often have their own challenges when it comes to their hair." Quinones said there are products to help people with over 50 per cent grey and highly resistant hair. These products are also intermixable with all Paul Mitchell colour shades while providing coverage.

If you are thinking about moving from brunette to blonde, the Syncrolit series is designed to make going blonde faster, gentler and easier to help you achieve the blonde shade you desire.

"Blonde hair does not have to be dry and damaged. Women can be blonde if they want but it is up to us as hairdressers to show them how to take care of their blonde hair and what products to use that will cater specifically to their hair care needs," Quinones said.

Though women continue to be the major consumers for hair care products, men, too, are fast becoming more and more interested in their appearance and overall grooming, he said.

Paul Mitchell's new product line is called Mitch Man and has seven new products.

"When it comes to caring for your hair, keep in mind always use the right products for the right type of hair and the importance of using the right tools to achieve your desired look," Quinones said.
