D'Jango Wins International Gold Cup of All-Fours

...more than $120,000 in prizes

The Trinidad & Tobago Card Games Association (TTCGA) held an All Fours competition, the International Gold Cup, on the weekend of February 15th - 17th.

Over 1000 participants competed for All-Fours supremacy and a prize purse in excess of $120,000, at the Couva Chamber of Commerce building.
It was likely the largest cash payout in the history of the sport for just one weekend of All-Fours, according to the organisers.

After two days of intense competition, nothing could have stopped the skills and tenacity of D’ Jango’s from Barrackpore and their surge to the finals as they emerged International Champions with a dazzling 15-13 win over the formidable Green Giants, a representative team from Gasparillo.

All eyes centered on D’ Jango’s as they played undefeated and captured the 1st prize of $60,000, the Gold Cup Trophy and bragging rights for a full year. This from a field of 40 competing teams from New York, Boston, Florida, Toronto, Montreal and the Caribbean.

Amongst the top qualifiers of the round robin part of the tournament on Saturday were Double Trouble from central Trinidad who was seeded first and Hardest Hard, a team from Tobago seeded third. Notable mention should also be made of the corporate teams like D’ Citizens from the First Citizens Group.

Varma Maharaj, Founder and Director of the TTCGA, organised and hosted the 2nd annual tournament as a move to take the game of All Fours to the next level by being recognised as a bonafide sporting event in the country.

Maharaj, expects the TTCGA International All Fours Gold Cup 2014 to be even bigger and better since the Association has made a decision to host the event every year on the weekend after Carnival.

Maharaj took the opportunity to acknowledge sponsors of the event, saying, “I am indeed thankful to Stag, National Lotteries Control Board and Wendy’s for their support”. He can be contacted at (868) 332-6172.
