Education is the Solution

By Sue-Ann Wayow

EDUCATION is the tool that can be used to rid this nation of social ills, says lawyer Kevin Ratiram.

Ratiram said the country was ranked number 49 in the world in terms of literacy rate, according to a United Nations Development Programme Report published last year.

Ratiram who is the founder of Rapidkidz Foundation spoke
at a career guidance function held at the Preysal High School last week.

He said, "If we are to rid ourselves of many of the social ills that plague us, we must educate our people. Where we educate our people, we reduce poverty.

When we educate our people, we reduce crime. Where we educate our people, we diversify for the future. Where we educate our people, we depend less on the outside world for our survival. Where we educate our people, we draw closer to independence in the literal sense."

Pupils of several secondary schools attended the fair.

The coast guard, army, fire service, University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and the Youth Training and Employment Partnership Programme (YTEPP) all participated in the fair.
