Wearing red from head to toe is a style option for some people for Independence Day, but when it comes to your nails keep it subtle, said nail technician Kate Bailey of Express Hair store, located upstairs Excellent Stores, Port of Spain.
With everyone celebrating the nation's 48th anniversary of Independence, Bailey had a few options for those wanting to have their nails look great in time for the holiday.
Bailey said, "Wearing the national flag on your fingernails is such a bold choice and is seldom asked (for) by customers. However, you can add pastel colours such as blue, green, yellow or orange that would blend nicely with bold colours."
"The older folks usually go for earth tones or something that simply requires a clear coat of nail polish. I think some people, though they are very patriotic, don't want to be too obvious," she said.
And while some might have their heart dead set on doing something in red, white and black, Bailey suggested going for an abstract pattern such as broken leaves or random lines as oppose to the actual design of the flag.
According to Bailey, acrylic nails usually last approximately three or four weeks depending on your nail growth and it takes just over an hour to get nails that are long, polished and well groomed.
If you have short nails or nails where nail growth is extremely slow you can also try press-ons or tips as an alternative but, at the end of the day, the choices are up to the customers, she said.
