Dresses seem to be the trend this Christmas as this is what most shoppers are asking to see at the boutiques.

Women are going for dresses that are elegant and edgy to wear at those company Christmas dinners and other functions for the season.

The Express recently visited some of the popular clothing stores in the heart of Port of Spain to see what's hot and to also get some idea of what's not in fashion for this holiday season.

The traditional colours of red, green, white and gold, which are traditionally worn during this holiday season, has not changed, said retailers.

Store attendant at Flirt clothing store Camille Nelson told us, "When it comes to Christmas luncheons and dinner parties, people are asking for more dresses. A wide array of colours are in. Red, green and gold are usually much sought after by customers during this time, however, some of the darker hues such as charcoal, black, purple and teal, which were a popular trend last year, continue to be favourite for some this year. So women could rest assured, just about any colour is wearing this season."

A style which was very popular in the 1940s and made a comeback in the 1980s has returned yet again.

This is the peplum style, which hugged a woman's body in all the right places. It has again become a front-runner in fashion, said retailers.

While finding the right dress is important, how you choose to accessorise it can make the difference, several retailers said.

Simple jewelry is being left on the shelves for something that makes more of statement.

"Spikes are very in right now. From jackets to shoes, this touch of glitter can definitely spice up any wardrobe," Nelson said.
