Tips and ideas to help plan a fun-filled bachelorette party the bride will enjoy

By Mala Webber

The bachelorette party is an opportunity for the bride-to-be to have a huge girls' night out, full of fun and frivolity, before the big day. It's the maid of honour's duty, along with the bridesmaids, to host the party, invite the guests and ensure the bride has an amazing time.

Normally, the bachelorette party is held a few weeks before the wedding and on the same night as the bachelor party. This isn't always the case but, certainly, it's a fun way to do it. Some couples even opt for a joint party, in which case, the bridal party needs to have clear communication to make sure everything runs smoothly and no wires get crossed.

Theme the party

A good idea is to match the bride's personality with the theme of the bachelorette party. For example, if she is a bit of a princess, you can make a pink veil with a crown for her to wear, along with a sash saying "Princess so and so". You can make a piñata and a cake to match the theme, and even include it in the games that you play. Get creative with the night and make sure that whoever is there gets to know each other through different activities; it will make the event an even bigger success if everyone feels comfortable with being silly.

Don't

make it about drinking

Remember that the bachelorette party doesn't always have to be all about getting drunk and playing drinking games. It could be a great time to spend some quality time with good friends— while, of course, you have a load of fun. You don't want the bride to ruin her reputation before her big day, or ruin her nails for that matter. Be responsible, especially if you're the one organising the event.

Something different—

A weekend away

The bachelorette party doesn't have to only be one night—make it a weekend. A weekend away with the girls where you could enjoy some time together filled with laughs could be a great idea.

• Rent a house down the islands or book a hotel in Tobago. You can even include some beauty treatments on one of the evenings. There are many local massage therapists and beauticians who would be happy to put together an evening of pampering for you and your girls, once you provide the candles, music and champagne—just let them walk with their beauty treatments. If everyone splits the cost, it could be a great event.

• If it's in the budget, book a trip to Miami or New York in the US for a weekend. Go to some shows, go shopping, go out for dinner and have a few cocktails.

• A champagne breakfast or a night around a pool somewhere could also be fun. Include some nice cheeses, wines, candles and a picnic blanket and do some good ole gossip sessions; you could even hire some entertainment, a singer, comedian or a band.

Whatever you decide to do, try and make the event as unique as possible, so that it's memorable and a big success.
