Queens of kaiso

Deep lyrics and meaningful calypso were the order of business at the 28th National Women's Action Committee (NWAC) National Calypso Queen Competition hosted at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) on Monday evening. During the Carnival season, when most women are objectified and taken only for their outward appearance, the NWAC competition helps to empower women by giving them a voice on the calypso stage. The event was eventually won by Lornette 'Fire Empress' Nedd-Reid, but there were many other competitors who delivered sterling performances. Here are some of them.
