The 20-Year-Old Author

By Sue-Ann Wayow

SHE is just 20-years-old, but Lauren Joseph has already published several literary pieces. And her first book was published this year.
The book  entitled "Revelation Awakes Us," is a collection of poems, bible verses and short stories.

But being a young Christian author with little financial support is tough, Joseph said.

Joseph who spent most of her life at Caratal Road, Gasparillo, said the poems were inspired by God, and began when she was 16-years-old.

Joseph said she does not believe in any religious sect,  but attends the Victoria Kingdom Assemblies Ambassadors in Gasparillo.
" Religion to me is man's philosophy and doctrines to what  they believe and not what God actually teaches," she said.

Joseph  is a student of the College of Science Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT). She is pursuing her Associate Degree  in Journalism.

Joseph was encouraged to begin writing after reading a book given to her by a former teacher.

She said "When I was going what is now Marabella  South Secondary, a teacher gave me a book  called Reflections and there was a poem called Love. I thought I could do better than what he did and continued writing which was a way to release my pain. I went through abuse and mom was never there. I love writing. It is a gift from God."

She said " I just want to be a writer. I just want to make my parents proud. No matter  how much hurt you went through in my part, I just want to make it through. When I am studying so many things, I just write it out and type it out."

Joseph said she would also like to produce post cards.
"I have a lot of business ideas for writing but I just need a sponsor."
