The problem is the same as the Police Service ,State Lawyers are not up to the job.The population don't trust either of those bodies.

need changing sir,remember independence
gave us the right to change our laws. I
cannot understand why it takes 5 to 10
years for a case to be consumated sir.
Look in the past four years out of 2,000 murders we got 3 convictions how
come.We need a DREAD MAN to rule sir. |

It amazes me that the man on the street sees these things before these ministers. It is certainly not news to folks who have had their eyes on the Trinidad scene. It took Martin all this time to see that? I guess he does not know too that the prisons are like crime universities. When police have to duck for cover and lawlessness reaches the doors of the court, who he felt committing the crime? Is real jokers in the parliament. |

While an attempt is being made to add to the laws in an effort to battle crime, we know that it is the criminals who are out on bail who are wrecking havoc in the society. The problem is, if we know that a criminal will walk out on bail in any case, what is the incentive to give a recorded statement? |

It does not take genius to fugure out that if you could get away it all the time, why stop? This is a must bill for crime fighting in T&T. If witnesses do not testify, the criminals don't fry. This amendment will even help save the lives of the witnesses, as there will be no sense in killing the witness as his already recorded testimony will do in his stead. Let's pass this bill and get going! |

Well Mr. Joseph, what do you intend to do about this situation. Now that you have found out the reason why crimes are continuing at an alarming rate, and you being the Minister of National Security, the ball is in your court to make recommendations and do something about it. Crime is out of hand in T&T. |

Ladies and Gentlemen, Does this mean that we can all go to sleep tonight breathing a sigh of relief, now that the Police have an idea of who is comitting the crime in our Country? Are these fellas crazy or what!!!??? Mr. Joseph makes it sound like the Police Force came to this conclusion after much intense research and detective work...NOT! This was a case of reading the statistics! If our highly untrained Police Officers would actually leave the Police Station occasionally to do some field work, we may have a better handle on things. This sounds like complacency on the part of Mr. Joseph, should we all throw our hands up in the air and give up at this point??? God put a hand!!! Certant Omnes. |

Did the minister just figure this out? If criminals are not locked up, they will do more crime! It is well known that many criminals return to crime after they have done their time; so what happens with those who have esacped prosecution or conviction? |

It is sad and disturbing to know that much time, money, brain power and effort is spent for the Honourable and Learned Minister Martin Joseph to tell the Nation that repeated offenders are responsible for the crime spree. The Nation already knows this. Our tax payers' money is being spent on this Learned Minister to tell us what we already know and experience. I am sure his next public announcement in a few months would be "The Government has conducted many studies and have found that crime is a social problem" or "The Government has sent us to Conferences (also called Holidays) all over the world to tell the Nation that all the shootings are inflicted by Guns". Sit and reflect, when you go to sleep, that we have vested our safety and/or security via the Social Contract in this very competent Honourable Minister who bluffs for a living.

All the comments about how silly Mr Joseph is fail to bring about the solution. First we must ID the problem. The voters of Trinidad and Tobago elected these men and women to run this country and now we are calling them names. Please look in the mirror and berate the person you see in the mirror. You elected them so u reap what you sow.
Stop complaining and start making changes. elect people who can do the job and not the party or the race and finally keep the fire to their feet so they have to earn your trust.
Dont ask the Lord to help you. Do IT yourself.

While it is easy to trivialize and critique the efforts made by individuals to bring the bill this far, long overdue/welcome as it may be.
Let us hope that the legislature has the good sense to move forward on this bill and include in it the ability to adjust where necessary as the perptrators of crime adapt to the new circumstances.
Also let it not take as long as the southern highway bypass, to get through the house.
If it should do so, citizens! please remember the indiviuals at election time......
And in all of this let us keep in mind the ages of these perpetrators, who seem to choose crime over free education, destruction of social behaviours, over the building there off. Basically the gun over the pen.
There needs to be efforts or a strengthing off to counteract the roots of this type of thinking.....
Together we will aspire and together it will be achieved. |

Frist Mr Joseph you have to protect witness because nobody will come forward if they know their live is in danger that one. Two just like LA. murder and crime was very high. They started the three strike and you lock up for life. That scare most criminal. Now Compton, Oakland crime is way down murder rate don't even reach 150 and Trinidad could fit in LA. about 30 times something to look into. Airborne Trini |

Rather than soley depend on State Witnesses to gain a prosecution, a competent police force would also employ alternative methods - forensic etc. Are we so backward that we do not have these means and if not why not? Minister Joseph, we are waiting to hear from you. |

What is evident from Minister's Joseph statement in front of Parliament is that he has no clue what is causing the increase in crime and thus no clue on how to decrease it! |
