The Trinidad Express copped two awards Sunday night at this year’s CAMSEL/MATT Lumen Media Awards. Express photographer Trevor Watson took home the prize for Best News Photograph and Express Features Reporter Rhea-Simone Auguste copped the prize for Best Feature Story for her piece on Child Abuse - ’From Parent to Pimp’.
The theme of this year’s competition, held by the Archdiocesan Commission for Communication (ACC) in collaboration with the Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MATT) was ’Protecting Children’s Basic Rights’.
The awards highlighted the work of journalists who educate the public on issues of social importance. And, in light of a number of child abuse cases making the front page of local newspapers, Chief Judge Jones P. Madeira said this year’s theme was appropriate.
Monsignor Cuthbert Alexander took the opportunity to announce the theme of the 2009 Lumen Media Awards: ’Searching for the truth in order to share it with others.’
