'Rude' tint removed in traffic crackdown
...Police issue 100 tickets

ONE woman had the words 'f*&%ing groovy' tinted on her car yesterday. On other vehicles, including maxi taxis, it was impossible to see through the windows and over 25 people were charged for breaking the line of traffic to catch the lights.

In all, 100 tickets were issued and illegal tint taken off 400 vehicles during traffic raids along the Southern Main Road, Curepe at the Kaydonna Drive-Inn intersection, Priority Bus Route and along the Uriah Butler and Churchill/Roosevelt Highways.

Yesterday, head of the Northern Division, Snr Supt Rajendra Maharaj, said the exercise was part of anti-crime measures.

Maharaj explained that almost every crime starts off on the road, saying that bandits have to move from one place to the next and setting up roadblocks was a good way of preventing crime and catching criminals.

Of the 100 tickets issued, 25 offenders were caught illegally driving on the PBR, 35 for breaking traffic lights and improper overtaking and the remainder for other traffic violations.

To help ease traffic, police used the KFC car park, off the highway in Curepe, for drivers who were pulled over for having dark tint.

Maharaj said the raids will continue. -Darryl Heeralal
