TSTT goes into cable TV

Cable TV customers now have a new option.

Telecommunications provider TSTT is bringing cable to a TV near you.

As the competition for consumer dollars heats up, many communication service providers have been stepping up their game and entering the ’triple play market’ where cable TV, phone services and Internet are offered.

TSTT, which currently offers broadband Internet services, land line and mobile phone applications, officially entered the cable market yesterday at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad hotel in Port of Spain.

Company chief executive Roberto Peon said the company has spent about $700 million to bring the services on-stream and to update infrastructure.

He said it would help the company gain further ’competitive advantages’.

As part of the company’s new entertainment packages, TSTT will also offer Video on Demand, which officials said will offer users greater flexibility in terms of the channels they can watch.

The cheapest cable package with TSTT will cost $99 and the user will get about 30 channels.

Movies for the ’on demand’ part of the deal will cost under $20 a film, said Peon.

In addition to basic cable TV, the company will also offer pay-per-view specials such as big arena boxing matches.

TSTT’s package also comes recording capabilities where people can rewind, fast-forward of pause their shows.

TSTT Blink Entertainment Packages have already been launched in Westmoorings and some parts of St James. It is currently being tested in Trincity.

TSTT is also now providing the Vigilance home and small business security system, which was launched on the local market yesterday and is geared towards making home security affordable, company officials said.
