Grenadians smarter than Trinis, says Bas

party hearty: National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters celebrate at Mon Rouge, Grand Anse, on Tuesday night following the results of Grenada's general election. The NDC won 11 of 15 parliamentary seats.

’Grenadians are smarter than we are’, Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday stated yesterday, as he responded to the results of the election in Grenada which saw the Keith Mitchell Government losing office and Opposition National Democratic Congress, led by Tillman Thomas, taking the reins of power.

’When they want change they can get it. But we want change in Trinidad and Tobago and we cannot get it because of the racial and ethnic divisions of the society and the voting patterns along those lines,’ he said.

’The Grenadians are more fortunate than we are. They appear to be more intelligent than we are,’ Panday said.

Conceding that change was sweeping across the region, with the exception of a few countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, Panday said: ’The reason those few countries cannot change is because of the ethnic divisions in the society that is so aligned to political or voting patterns’.
