SEVERAL minutes after rain fell yesterday, areas throughout the East-West Corridor were covered in flood waters.
So much water in fact, that the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) activated their National Emergency Operations Centre after they received reports that Morvant, Petit Valley, St Joseph, Morne Coco and Champ Fleurs had suffered landslides.
Crystal Williams, 25, of Coconut Drive, Morvant, told the Express that the water ran through her neighbour’s home seconds after the Never Dirty River overflowed, leaving slush and debris in its trail.
A resident of Mount Hope Place in Mount Hope, Giselle Ollivierre, said the heavy rains created mayhem for her and her family when several feet of water gushed into her mother’s house.
’The drains are clogged up and there is so much debris. To make matters worse, there is no running water to even clean or wash down the place,’ she said.
Another resident from Santa Cruz said he was stuck in standstill traffic for hours in San Juan because of raging flood waters.
’Saddle Road in San Juan flooded really bad and the bridge look like it about to break,’ said 25-year-old Jason Jackman.
Meanwhile, the Express received reports that a landslide on the lookout along Lady Young Road in Morvant sent two cars slipping over the edge.
Two women who were driving the vehicles received slight injuries and were treated and sent home.
