Hilton hotel security 'not ready' for summits

President of the Estate Police Association Andrew Dardaine claims that the Hilton hotel’s security is not ready for the two upcoming international summits.

Dardaine said that the Hilton has been making false claims about its high level of security.

’The hotel said that they are keeping one step ahead of the criminals. I know for a fact that is not true.’

Dardaine said he recently learned that the Hilton has been earmarked to house US President Barack Obama for the Fifth Summit of the Americas conference in April.

’That hotel does not have the security that a man like the US President will require,’ he said.

Dardaine told the Express in an interview on Thursday that a staff of 32 trained and pre-cepted security officers had been reduced to just nine people, since the hotel has been methodically firing security staff and not replacing them.

He said the security strength was at its weakest right now as hotel authorities were not doing proper background checks on security and allowing ’anybody and everybody’ on the compound.

In response to the allegations Ali Khan, general manager at the Hilton, explained that hotel security has moved far beyond the patrol style security to a more evolved system.

’We have moved from simple security to risk aversion and management. That level of security does not fall under the EPA jurisdiction, so Mr Dardaine may not know everything that goes on in the hotel.’

With regard to the visit of the US President, Khan refused to divulge any information.

’I will always respect my customers’ privacy,’ he said yesterday, adding that Dardaine should do the same.

Khan said that the Hilton had international safety measures in place and planned to institute more in the next two months in time for the summits.

’At any point in time only three people are fully aware of what is going on at the hotel regarding security,’ he said.
