The thief who is alleged to have broken into the Flagstaff Hill apartment being rented by the National Secretariat of the Fifth Summit of the Americas, and a number of homes in the area, has been caught by police.
Officers of the St Clair Police Operations Unit including Acting Corporal Darryl Honore, along with Acting Corporal Gerald Williams and WPC Joanne Charles apprehended the suspect at the Piarco International Airport yesterday around 11 a.m.
He was attempting to flee the country when the police intercepted him.
Police have retrieved several items of jewelry and a large quantity of cash of various currencies including TT, US and Jamaican dollars as well as British pounds sterling.
The items stolen from the Flagstaff apartment were not retrieved. They included a laptop computer, electronic items and documents. Police say they were working with the suspect to retrieve the other items.
