Crowds pack Waterfront
Delegates, visitors pour in...

The Port of Spain International Waterfront Centre was buzzing with activity yesterday, as hundreds of summit delegates and international media, as well as members of the public, went about with their business.

From as early as 6 a.m., delegates started arriving for the three Fora - Private Sector, Civil Society and Youth - which took place aboard the Carnival Victory and Caribbean Princess cruise liners, which are docked at the Cruise Ship Complex in Port of Spain.

Next door at the Hyatt Regency hotel, summit delegates were already checking in. General manager Russell George and several members of his staff ensured that everything was in order.

At Tower C of the International Financial Centre - which is being utilised by the National Secretariat - scores of summit officials and media were seen in the lobby waiting on one of the four elevators, in order to make their way up to one of the 26 floors.

The media centre is located on floors 2-6, while the other floors are being used by the National Secretariat. But as the crowd in the lobby grew thicker, those who got fed up of waiting decided to use the two stairwells instead.

Outside, vehicles kept driving in, either to drop of passengers at the Hyatt or the Summit Village, as well as to offload items at the National Secretariat

As a result, the seven-storey car park, which has a 1200-vehicle capacity, was filled to capacity. On its third floor, several spots were seen blocked off with white cloth. These areas are being used as makeshift change rooms for the 750-cast members scheduled to perform during tomorrow’s opening ceremony of the Fifth Summit of the Americas.

The Summit Village, which opened at 10 a.m. and ran until 8 p.m. last night, saw thick crowds throughout the day. It was the last day the village was opened to the public. From today, the village will only be accessible to accredited summit delegates and members of the media.
