Sparrow headlines cultural show

The Calypso King of the World, Mighty Sparrow, will headline today’s Summit of Culture taking place at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain.

Sparrow, who performed at Friday’s Panyard Sensations at the Renegades Panyard, Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, said he was looking forward to performing at today’s event.

The event is free to the public.

Sparrow, who was the first artiste in the world to record a song endorsing US President Barack Obama’s campaign for the presidency, had hoped he would have been able to greet Obama whom he met in August of 2007 when he presented a copy of the song ’Barack The Magnificent’ to him.

Pan Trinbago president, Patrick Arnold, told the Sunday Express when his executive learnt that Sparrow had not been invited to be a part of the official summit activities, the organisation decided to bring him down for the three Panyard Sensations concerts at the Renegades and Trinidad All Stars panyards as well as the Queen’s Park Savannah today.

Sparrow will therefore deliver a special performance at the show, which kicks off at 4 p.m.

This event will also feature the first performance by reigning International Power/Groovy Soca Monarch and Road March Monarch, Fay-Ann Lyons, since she gave birth to her daughter the weekend after Carnival. Lyons will perform alongside her husband Bunji Garlin and the Asylum Band.

The show will feature among others, Adesh Samaroo, Dil-E-Nadan, Baron, Black Stalin, Preacher, the N9 Dancers, Kaisoca Moko Jumbies, Mt Hope Connection Sailors, Len Boogsie Sharpe, Pelham Goddard and Friends, reigning National Panorama Champion Silver Stars Steel Orchestra and the Laventille Rhythm Section.
