Five in court today for gun, ganja

Five people are expected to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate today after being held by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) on Friday afternoon.

The suspects were held by a team of officers led by Cpl Darryl La Pierre and including PCs Sunil Bharath, Ryan Duncan and Aaron Roberts.

Officers of the High Performance Team and K9 Unit were also involved in the exercise, which netted a fully loaded firearm, a quantity of ammunition and also a quantity of marijuana.

Police reports state that the exercise began at 1 p.m. when officers executed warrants at several homes in the Malick and El Socorro areas.

A 21-year-old El Socorro man wanted in connection with a series of robberies in the Barataria area was held at his home with a fully loaded revolver and an assortment of ammunition.

A 30-year-old man and his 27-year-old wife were held alongside a 40-year old man and his 35-year-old wife in connection with possession of 500 grammes of marijuana.
