Estranged wife of policeman in murder-suicide:

A traumatised Cathy-Ann Felician-James, the estranged wife of PC Sean James, was in a state of confusion yesterday over the apparent murder/suicide in which her husband killed his lover, 47-year-old secretary Donna Noel, and then himself.

After hearing her husband had killed himself, added shock came for Felician-James as several friends and relatives called believing she had been killed when initial media reports stated the officer had killed his ’wife’.

James, 41, was described by Felician-James as a quiet, calm, fun loving person. She said she could not have seen him snapping in the manner he did on Wednesday.

Police reports are that James, who was attached to the Besson Street Police Station, had an argument with Noel at the office of Dr Wahid Mohammed, where Noel worked, before he shot her in the head. He then shot himself in the head and died later at hospital.

James, an officer for the past 19 years in the Police Service, had two daughters, aged 17 and eight.

’God alone knows what caused him to do it,’ said Felician-James at the family’s Tacarigua home yesterday. Felician-James is the mother of James’s younger daughter.

Although it was said Noel and James had shared an apartment in D’Abadie for over a year, Felician-James stated she did not know Noel or the status of her relationship with her husband.

She stated that the police officer, despite moving out, regularly came to the home.

’It come as if we wasn’t separated, he was always here, to see his daughter, to feed the dogs,’ said Felician-James.

The doctor’s Eastern Main Road office remained closed yesterday and according to a notice on the door, is set to reopen on August 13. Investigating officers stated there were no witnesses to the incident.

Attempts to contact Dr Mohammed yesterday were unsuccessful. The Express was also unable to contact the relatives of Noel yesterday.

In recent years there have been several murder/suicides involving members of the protective services.

Last year, at the Royal Castle Outlet mere metres away from where James and Noel died, Ricardo Jason Duncan, 32, a precepted security officer killed his ex-girlfriend of several years, Adwoa Nefertiti Grant, 25, then himself.

In March 2007, Ronald Gonzales, a 40-year old security guard with Telecom Security shot and killed his wife Avalyn Isaac-Gonzales, 34, an MTS guard with his service revolver.

Back in March 1999, special reserve police Eric George, famed for his one man war against drug trafficking, shot and killed his wife Tara George before taking his own life. Also in 1999, Lance Corporal Anthony Caesar killed himself after he shot dead his commanding officer Noel Penco and attempted to murder his former lover Heather Wiltshire at the Prime Minister’s residence.

The funeral for PC James will take place on Saturday at the Our Lady of the Luz Church in Tacarigua. Investigations into the incident are continuing.

I Cannot Believe it Posted: 2009-08-06 11:25:00 PM
Sorry your husband had to kill this woman and leave you and his children to pick up the pieces. It's so sad he did not perhaps have the strength to just walk away as he allegedly done in his marital home.May they both rest in peace and we hope you and your girls can now start rebuilding your lives. Perhaps this is a lesson to all home wreckers?
My Condolences to all involved in this tragedy Posted: 2009-08-07 00:57:00 AM
I am saddened to hear that this has taken place. I agree with his estranged wife, the person I taught I knew was not a monster he was basically a good guy, well liked by all who knew him But then again with the pressures of life who knows what really lies in the hearts of human beings. Again my condolences to all affected by this especially his kids.
ZERO GUN CONTROL ! Posted: 2009-08-06 8:54:00 PM
There is far too many guns in the wrong hands in T&T.The local communities with the help of the Government should start a gun swap for cash with no question answered. This has proven successful in many States in the US.For every gun that is turned in to law enforcement, a human life is saved. Also law enforcement officers should not be allowed to carry their weapons when off duty, because Trinidad is the horning capital of the world. Love you Sean Posted: 2009-08-06 9:54:00 PM
This is just to show you that you never really knows what is going on with your friends. I was a friend and colleague to Sean and knew his daughter and wife, but i have since left the service and moved away. I hadn't spoken to heim for a few years but i always enquired about him and i didn't know he was going through such difficulties, but may god give his family the strength to go on and hope he will look after our Sean. We love you still Sean far always.
Limits Posted: 2009-08-07 03:23:00 AM
Sadly we all have our limits.Forgiveness is a word easily used but hard in practicality.I think we should all pray for ourselves!
10 to 1 yeah right Posted: 2009-08-07 08:45:00 AM
You know what I dont understand with Trinidad men, when they cheat they use it have ten women to one man in Trinidad ... but if one of the ten women dont want you what happen to the other nine? next time someone uses that to justify anything they better come again because that is ure not evident.. ladies know it as well when you walk down the road you dont find 10 women suit-in 1 man its the other way around.. it is so sad this had to happen
police service Posted: 2009-08-07 07:42:00 AM
It is about time the service get counsellore to discuss problems with officers.it happens all over the world.Ileft the service 20 years ago to further my education abroad and now live abroad.Iremember one time i went to my sergeant to speak about a personal problem and he joked about it the next thing happened the entire station new about it.Thats because every takes forgranted that everything is okay.We need to wake up about this present society and communicate before is too late.Ex police from the USA.
I can't believe he did it! Posted: 2009-08-07 11:17:00 AM
Believe it baby! He will be buried tomorrow and another young woman lost her life at the hands of an abuser. I am sad for her and sad for him. Pity he did not have someone to talk to before taking his and the young lady's life. Such a waste. My sympathies to both families. Brenda, Edmonds,WA
police officer needed counselling Posted: 2009-08-07 1:41:00 PM
alot of our policemen and women are really stressed on the job and not everyone is able to deal with it, people can be unsympathetic, they need to spend more time with their families
Condolences Posted: 2009-08-07 1:12:00 PM
Condolences to all affected. I do not understand how he had the nerve to leave his wife, but could not do it for the outside womaan. What propelled him to commit murder/sucide?
Too many deaths Posted: 2009-08-07 2:28:00 PM
It breaks my heart to see the many murders and little help being provided for these people. More money needs to be invested in the hospitals to provide better care, counselling and shown the importance of human life and setting the right example for our future the children of today.
If the Population only know Posted: 2009-08-07 09:21:00 AM
How can you spend time with your families when you work 24 hours on 24 off and those in authority dont seem to care.It seems useless that they refusing to grant leave to dedicated Police officers who are overworked and underpaid have to come and deal with crap everyday. You have to wait 10 months for the payment of overtime,The media needs to interview the "smallPolice " and find out what really taking place on the job.Do you know if a Police officer takes leave on the recommendation of a psychiatrist it goes against his record as sick leave and it affects his promotion.
Such a sad situation......one too many Posted: 2009-08-07 1:56:00 PM
Let me add my two cents....Men need help in TT real bad.........all of them cops and regular joes alike......they need to understand that women now are not like their Moms who would have tolerated anything to keep the family together, mostly because of financial situations and way too many worrying about 'what people going to say' while the Dads 'drevayed' and played 'village ram' ....now mind you not all , but even one was too many........I think guys NEED TO FOCUS on how this negative behaviour of their Dads affected their Moms and themselves, remember how sad, depressed and frightened she and you and your siblings would have been, as kids were probably the only one to see this, and VOW to NOT do it to the women and children in your lives, or else you will have to 'hit the road jack', something which your Dads would not have had to deal with, as there are very few women today who will say they were not abused like this ex-wife in this sad situation, because she probably does not recognise the fact that 'horning' is a form of serious emotional abuse......DO NOT follow the bad examples your saw as your were growing up,rather vow to be better towards your family, and if you having a problem , BE A MAN and seek professional help......ty.
