Nagessar 'worried'
Awaiting Jack's next move

Deputy Mayor of Chaguanas, Orlando Nagessar, has said he intends to seek police protection depending on what Opposition MP Jack Warner says against him on Friday.

’I intend to go to the police, depending on what he say because his speech can instigate others to react as he would like,’ said Nagessar.

He did not elaborate, but stressed that he wants peace with Warner and the RamjackG faction consisting of Opposition MPs Warner, Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj and Winston ’Gypsy’ Peters.

Warner has said he would deal with Nagessar publicly on the platform this Friday at a meeting scheduled to be held in the constituency of Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday.

The meeting is planned to take place after Warner opens a new office in the area, which follows Panday slamming Warner for abandoning his constituents. Panday has assumed the role of surrogate MP for Chaguanas West.

Warner’s statements were sparked after Panday used Nagessar’s office last Thursday for meeting his constituents as well Nagessar’s criticism of a decision by Mayor Natasha Navas to appoint PNM councillors to head certain sub-committees.

Nagessar said he has no skeletons in the closet and described his term as Chaguanas mayor from 1999 to 2003 as a ’successful and progressive’ one.

Asked what he thought was Warner’s grouse with him, he responded: ’Because I am close to Mr Panday.’

’My own grouse is not the woman in the borough, my grouse is the infiltration of the council into the hands of the PNM. They are in control and the man who is pulling the strings is Satish Ramroop.’

Ramroop, a former PNM senator, is now the personal assistant to Navas.

’He’s the mayor’s bag toter. He takes her speech and put it on the podium and when she’s done he moves it. He’s the umbrella man,’ said Nagessar.

The Express tried to contact both Navas and Ramroop for comment, but calls went unanswered.

Warner’s cellphone was switched off. He was expected to return from Nigeria last night.
