Gunshots fly out in Morvant; one dead

ILLEGAL GUNS: The shotgun and rifle which were found by police officers following a shootout in Vegas, Morvant on Monday night. -Photo: STEVE McPHIE

A NUMBER of gunshots in the Vegas, Morvant, area on Monday night did little to stir residents into investigating what had happened.

Yesterday morning, however, some dared to venture out of their homes and found the body of 28-year-old Stephan Mark just a stone’s throw away from where slain gang leader, Sean ’Bill’ Francis, once lived.

Francis was shot dead outside his Vegas, Morvant, home on April 27 this year. Two men are now before the courts on that matter charged with murder.

Mark was found with gunshot wounds to his chest shortly after 6 a.m. behind a house located off Unity Lane, Vegas.

Officers from the Morvant CID, along with personnel from the Homicide Bureau, visited the scene yesterday morning and after examining the scene ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre. Reporters tried to interview some of the young men who were on the scene that morning but none of them had much to say.

Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations. The murder toll stood at 329 up to press time last night, according to an Express tally. -GG

I am a trinidaian who lives in Baltimore in the USA. And I am wondering what is going on in my country, its' a killing everyday that you wake. My God come on young people, why do you want to destroy my country and my people. There are so much other construcive things you can do to occupy yourselves.Wake up and start thinking positive and don' let Satan take over your heart. I will keep praying for my counry and hope one of my family do not end up on a slab for no apparent reason.

It's so easy to resolve our problems with physical violence, but it takes a responsible and mature person to response nonviolently, thus, let's be that responsable and mature person. GOD BLESS..................:

To the people of Morvant/Laventille....Does it feel good not being able to come out of your own home because on the "no snitching" deal you seem to have. SAY SOMETHING to stop the crime in your area.

Gunshots were heard in the night but police did not arrive unttil the next morning to investigate and remove the boby. Isn't it possible that the victim could have been alive if he received immediate treatment?
