Murdered ex-cop's cars found in raid

South Bureau

The two cars stolen from the home of former police sergeant, Harripersad Ramkissoon, were recovered during a police raid in Marabella Tuesday night.

And three men-two from Pleasantville and another from Couva-were taken into police custody. A fourth suspect was arrested by homicide detectives last evening, police said.

The men, ages 21 to 38, are expected to appear before several identification parades this morning.

Ramkissoon was found dead at his Cottage Road, St John’s Village, San Fernando home on Monday night. His hands and feet were tied with strips of cloth and his mouth gagged. His eyes were sealed with duct tape, police said.

An autopsy confirmed that he was strangled.

Police believe the motive was robbery, since his home was ransacked and items were stolen. Ramkissoon’s two cars-a white Nissan B-13 and black Nissan B-14-which were parked downstairs, were missing.

As long as criminals in Trinidad know that bail will be set at an affordable amount, the case will take four to five years before it get to the court house, and no one will come foward and testify ,crime will surge. We need help from a strongman in government. trin's Fl USA.

If a policeman is not safe in this country, what is going to happen to the rest of us. That is the question. We must have stiffer sentences for criminals. We must have speedy trials for criminals. I read about trials for people who were arrested in 2001 and they still have not gone to trial. So if the criminals know that they will likely never go to trial, then they get bolder and more reckless. It would be great if we can import law enforcement officers, magistgrates and prosecutors just as we have imported health care professionals. The judicial system is just as weak and vulnerable as the health care system and I believe the powers that rule should look into this. There are a lot of other Caribbean countries which have police officers who would be willing to relocate to Trinidad, the same way a lot of Trinidad police officers relocated to the Bahamas 20-30 years ago and headed up a very effective police force over there.
Good Job! Posted: 2009-08-13 07:39:00 AM
It is a very good response from the Trinidad Police in reference to this case.It is time to get the rid of these criminal elements in this civil society.

Good job but what happens next? Maybe the case goes on for the next 10-20 years? That's the norm in Trinidad. Also does anyone know how Identification Parade is done? The victims families are in the same room with the criminal's families. And there no Witness Protection Program to protect these victims' families. No wonder cases get thrown out when witnesses withdraw from giving their testimonies. This is no assuming. This is facts.

Crime is coming closer to home. I live on the main road to where he lives. You hear about all these murders and now it is in your own backyard, you are very afraid. God help us all.

Good going...this is good police work.Also,... the fact that his eyes was taped shut, that seem to indicate that his killers was known to him and wanted to hide their identity. The police should explore possibly his relatives, neighbours and people who interracted with him.

WHAT!!! the police service caught somebody!!! all it took to light a fire under their collective behinds was the small issue of the entire force being put into disrepute.

I have just thought of this irony in crime. If these criminals think that other folks should not have their possessions, why do they the criminals want the people's goods? People work for their stuff. The criminals did not work for the stuff, then why do they want to deprive the workers, business people of what they possess? The criminals steal, kill and then they want to enjoy the fruits of the victims' labour, how can that be? Aren't criminals afraid of being caught, incarcerated for many years or even put to death by the hangman's noose? a.c. md

Introduce compulsory military service for persons between the ages of 18 and 30 years-for one year. Teach them life skills and a vocation. Ensure that the under 18's remain in school and do not roam the streets. Get discipline in our society so that our young people do not grow up to be useless, mindless, muderous criminals.
