Where did the football tickets really go?
Rowley to Hunt:

Diego Martin MP Dr Keith Rowley is calling on Sport Minister Gary Hunt to account for the 172 football tickets he took for Wednesday night’s match between Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador ’under the guise of them being for parliamentarians’.

TTFF Vice-President Jack Warner on Wednesday revealed that Hunt had requested the tickets six weeks ago stating that he planned to give them to parliamentarians. But Warner said he discovered at 4 p.m. on Tuesday that Opposition MPs, Independent Senators and others including Rowley, Port of Spain Mayor Murchison Brown and Tobago House of Assembly Chairman Orville London had not been invited by Hunt. Warner had to send tickets to these persons, with a letter of apology.

’That a Minister of Government could go to the TTFF and take $86,000 (each of the 172 tickets was worth $500 according to Jack Warner) worth of tickets under the guise of it being for parliamentarians and other high-ranking officials and not distribute it to those people, is scandalous,’ Rowley stated.

’Because if anybody from Laventille, Carenage or St James had done something like that, Mr (James) Philbert and the constabulary would have been knocking on their door asking them about obtaining valuable instruments under false pretences,’ Rowley added.

’He (Hunt) misrepresented himself to the TTFF obtaining a ticket for me and others of similar station. He first said it was for parliamentarians. Well I am a parliamentarian. His second position was that they (the tickets) were for Government Parliamentarians. I still qualify. I am a Government parliamentarian and that does not require the approval of anybody, only the people of Diego Martin West. He (Hunt) deleted my name from this list. The tickets were put in his custody. What became of my ticket?’ Rowley asked.

And to the extent that anybody would have done something like that...they should lose their job. But I suppose, ’ Rowley stated, tongue-in-cheek, ’that is not conduct unbecoming of a Minister; just asking about oversight at UDeCOTT is.’

For the second consecutive day yesterday the Express was unable to contact Hunt, despite leaving messages on his phones.

Well, well, well. Why is it that the FIFA Vice President, the M.P. Dr.Rowley and Mr.John Public have to be hunting for an answer for this troublesome ticket trivia tendered by our beloved Sports Minister? Let's not get too worried folks.Perhaps the Honourable Minister is awaiting the 'damage control' report that he has delegated to his protocol officer.
really sad Posted: 2009-08-14 02:20:00 AM
It is really sad and disappointing that Mr Hunt can't or won't respond to this matter...is he hiding and if so why? But who knows maybe in another week there will be some scandal supposedly perpetrated by the Opposition...that will refocus the attention elsewhere...isnt that how it always goes?

Hunte have and Must account for those tickets. If he does'nt, let him pay for those that were not given to the MP'S. He should RESIGN now. Shame on this Minister he has abused his position and with all that is going on in High Offices, he must go. Shame on you. I could'nt see the game because i simply could'nt afford to pay for a ticket on my paltry wage.Yet you who could have seen it freely. Footy Fan

Mr. Rowley, you silly man, the rat ate it, like they did the cocaine in lock-up. You have raised legitimate concerns and honest answers must be presented. We cannot allow anyone sitting in our Parliament to indulge in behaviour unbecoming of a member of our gov't. Mr. Warner was placed in an abominable position, which should not be. Mr. Hunte must be called upon to give an account for every ticket that came in his possession. This is not the first time that Mr. Hunte has displayed unetical behaviour in public office, and he should called upon the rug immediately. This incident is embarrassing to say the least. Mr. Hunte's distribution of the tickets reflect his bias and bigotry. I wonder who gave him permission to sit in judgement ... to determine who belongs and who don't.
WELL WELL Posted: 2009-08-14 04:34:00 AM

We as citizens shaould not be too surprise with the actions that government ministers take. We all know where those tickets went, to family members, his personnel friends other high ranking PNM cohorts. This is not the first time that this minister has done this. $86,000 is a lot to some people, and this just show to the nation as a whole that the PNM government is in power and could do what they want, when they want and whenever they want.
172 Tickets for Gary Hunt Posted: 2009-08-14 09:28:00 AM
Why should the Minister be given any tickets in the first place. Don't Ministers get allowances for their entertainment expenses. There should really be an inquiry into who got those tickets and if it was for friends and family rather than The Parliamentarians, the fraud squad should be called in. There is too much of this type of thing going on in government now. As James Philbert said "Bring the full brunt of the law on to anyone found breaking the law"
Where did the foolball tickets really go? Posted: 2009-08-14 09:51:00 AM
In any civilised society he would be "the former Minister of Sport by today. My question : given parliamentary increases, why should Ministers be begging for free tickets today anyway? Surely that constitutes abuse of public office? He should now be made to account for each and every ticket and make payment for each and every one not given to a parliamentarian. That money could go towards paying the retrenched Chaguanas workers Mrs. Manning got so uptight about Jack Warner subsidising!!!!
Do your Duty Posted: 2009-08-14 10:31:00 AM
No really, if this story pans out to be true, Minister Hunt should be held accountable. If he is found wanting, he has to resign. We as a nation cannot condone these acts, as little as they may be. Minister Hunt, if you did indeed commit a wrongful act, please do do your duty to the nation and relieve yourself of your position. Mr Prime Minister, you cannot allow this situation to be swept under the floor.
