The National Hurricane Centre said yesterday that the third depression of the Atlantic season had maximum sustained winds of 56 kph and could soon become a tropical storm with winds of at least 63 kph. Tropical Storm Ana, the first named storm of the Atlantic season, had winds of near 64 kph at 11 a.m. (1500 GMT). The Hurricane Centre says residents in the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico should monitor Ana’s progress.
