Beetham grandmother may have been killed for US$, say cops

POLICE are working on a third theory behind Thursday morning’s shooting of Beetham grandmother Jennifer John, who was killed at her home.

They believe that the four masked gunmen who stormed her 17th Street, Beetham Gardens home may have been after an undisclosed sum of United States dollars sent to her by her son, a resident in the US.

Around 3 a.m. that morning, John and her 14-year-old grandson were at home when the killers stormed the house.

The teenager heard the commotion, jumped through a window and escaped.

His grandmother remained in the house.

No one knows if she may have argued with the men but she was shot several times in her chest. She died a few minutes after being shot.

The Express was told that police speculated that the killers may have stormed the house that morning looking for her grandson.

The other theory was that the men came to rob the house and the third is they may have been after the US currency which they thought may have been in the house.

The money was sent to John by the teenager’s father as financial assistance to meet the expenses of the child.

Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing investigations into the murder.
