Boy, 16, on murder charge

A SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Petit Valley boy appeared in court yesterday charged with murder.

The teen, who was arrested at the weekend by West End police officers, was charged with the murder of Michael Lal, who was killed on June 10.

Lal, 41, of Ravine Road, Petit Valley, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port of Spain General Hospital, after he was shot in the chest multiple times just outside his home.

Yesterday, the teenager told Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls that he was born on November 21, 1992, and through his attorney, Daniel Khan, said he was forced at gun point by the police to sign a statement.

The teen, who had his elder brother in court for support, was sent to the Port of Spain General Hospital for treatment, after he complained of an injury he sustained at the hands of the police after they placed a gun to his forehead.

The matter was adjourned to September 1 and he was remanded to the Youth Training Centre (YTC).
