Chaguanas market vendors unhappy

Chaguanas market vendors are unhappy.

They want increased security, clean toilets and the removal of other vendors selling on the pavements around the market.

These were among the complaints Mayor Natasha Navas heard yesterday, as she conducted her first official visit of the market and spoke to more than 400 vendors.

Navas said she walked throughout the market to ’get a feel of the place’ and the problems of the vendors.

’I met a large number of vendors and a team of officials who accompanied me, conducted a survey to find out the most urgent needs of the vendors,’ Navas said.

She said cleaning contractors had not been doing their jobs.

’The toilets are in a terrible state and vendors feared they would become ill if conditions were not improved,’ she said.

Navas said a number of vendors used booths at the facility for storage while selling their merchandise at the market gate.

She said the issue of overcrowding and parking, as well as other concerns would be discussed at a committee meeting today.

There are over 1,000 registered vendors at the Chaguanas market, she said, adding that terms and conditions for vending would be revised and changes made to reduce the number of vendors and clear the pavements.

Mayor Tasha is on the job. She is in touch with the people and their concerns. It will take a while, one day at a time there will be improvements and progress. It took a while to become messy and if she moves too quickly there may be friction. Gently and politely there will be positive changes she has a soft nature. Ray.Fbn

That's weird, only two weeks ago, they put their new Mayor Navas up on a pedestal. Here is a thought for you complainers, go knock on her door now, she may open it
Good start Mayor. we know you will do a good job by looking after the people's needs. Posted: 2009-08-18 12:27:00 AM
This has been a problem for several years and what has Rambachan done to help the situation? Rambachan was to busy spending to much time trying to fight Panday's battles.
Give it two years and with the help of Warner and the Hazel, Chaguanas will be transformed. Posted: 2009-08-18 12:31:00 AM
This new Mayor will make Chaguanas a livable place again, free from crimes and heavy traffic jams, just give her some time and your support.
