Okay, I won't sue Bas
Warner gives in to party members' pleas:

BEGGED: Jack Warner

After several devotees of Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday pleaded with him to not sue their leader, Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner has decided to hold his hand.

’I have given serious consideration to the numerous pleas made to me by members of the party. Since I have always put the interests of the membership of the party and the party first in my actions, I have decided to hold my hands and not to proceed to commence the action for libel against Mr Panday, but without prejudice to my future legal rights in respect of this matter. I am not interested in getting personal gain at the expense of the party and I have always dedicated my time and every resource which I possess to the party,’ Warner stated yesterday.

He named UNC CEO Dr Tim Gopeesingh, Opposition MP Chandresh Sharma and party general secretary Faizal Karim as being among the high ranking officials who begged him to spare Panday.

Warner had intended to sue Panday for libel arising out of comments he made on a radio programme where he alleged called Warner a drug lord.

He had threatened to destroy Panday for these comments by taking everything he owns and flew in British QC Allan Newman to start the action.

For the past two days Warner was engaged in lengthy discussion with Newman as well as Opposition MP Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj, Om Lalla and Anand Ramlogan.

Although he desisted from launching a personal lawsuit against Panday, he still intends to fight the Panday led UNC Executive for its decision to send him, Maharaj and Winston ’Gypsy’ Peters to the party’s disciplinary committee.

This action was taken against the trio for their failure to answer charges against them for bringing the party into disrepute and voting with the PNM in the Parliament.

He has also advised his attorneys to take the necessary legal steps to protect UNC councillors Felisha Ishahak and Narsingh Rambarran from threatened disciplinary action by the Executive after they voted out Suruj Rambachan as mayor of Chaguanas.

’The legal advice which I have received from my team of lawyers has fortified the position which I have taken in public on these issues and provided me with legal options in respect of all the matters’ stated Warner.

He stressed that although he has held his hand, he shall not be distracted from effecting change within the party.

WHY Jack, WHY? Basdeo Panday deverves to be sued and sued well. Jack, we know that you are being merciful, but do not be unwise. This is the chance to get silence Panday for all - don't let it slip away.
Warner Vs Panday Posted: 2009-08-21 00:40:00 AM
Warner should contiue his case against Panday because he continues to make verbal comments about people without facts and evidence. this may therefore cause him to check himself and realise a lot of people cannot support him because of his behaviour.

OH JACK Posted: 2009-08-21 01:03:00 AM
All this grandcharging for what? Typical Trini politics asual. Manday can say anything he like and get away with it and you all call Manning a dictator?
Okay, I won't sue Bas - says Warner Posted: 2009-08-21 03:34:00 AM
Mr. Warner you are a smart man. Having laid all the chips on the table, you made the decision you believed would be best for you, the party and country. Those Party members who came to you knew that if this lawsuit went on the Party and many of its members would be tarnished and they would never be able to recover from his 'disgrace'. We need a strong opposition party in T&T to challenge the run-away PNM Administration that appears to have lost all interest in serving the people of this country. So putting off this legal proceedings was a wise decision. I hope that intelligence and cool minds will be the power of the day. At the end of the day, no one wins when people take legal steps such as this lawsuit. All the shenanigins going on the UNC-A should and must come to an end, and behaviour befitting adults who should be trying to convince us that they have what it takes to get back into gov't and get us back on track. Now that this road-black has been removed, you have an opportunity to prove your worth. So do not make fools of yourself and others.
Okay I Wo'nt Sue Bas Posted: 2009-08-21 00:28:00 AM
Jack you've shown Panday you're not only a Better Man than he is, but also a man with Class. Let us now hope Bas as an elderly Statesman will stop making a Spectacle of himself & take a leaf or two from the books of our past Prime Ministers. Concerned UNC Member
Panday is a kitten Posted: 2009-08-21 05:10:00 AM
At least Panday has learnt a lesson. Indirectly he has apologised. He should be man enough to call Jack and encourage him to continue and plead with his supporters to keep out. Since he did non of the above he's a kitten.Sugar Aloes and Cro Cro are listening.
ok. I won't sue Bas Posted: 2009-08-21 01:45:00 AM
HA ha ha ha, so the mickey mousse and company again have the media spotlight. Now i wish the press will stop making their Bonancy stories head line or reporting on them all together. It is all the same story, "crabs in a barrel" One have money to spend and the other money to squander, One is foul mouthed the other stutters but has some sense. when or where will it end. "Sugar Aloes, Cro Cro, Chalkdust are you guys out there?. It's not too late. This sounds like good material. by the way, JACK, don't be a Jack go ahead and take the man to court, don't let them manipulate you, Take a look at Ramesh case with Bas. If you don't know talk to Raffique Shah.
Plenty hot words, no court action! Posted: 2009-08-21 06:23:00 AM
Thank you very much Jack, on that magnanimous gesture of yours not to sue Panday. It looks more, however, as plain old "grand charge." As a former teacher you must have remembered the story of the frog that wanted to blow itself as large as an ox. What it did was to blow itself up.
I dreamt a dream tonight... Posted: 2009-08-21 06:54:00 AM
When individuals who want power starts to victimise people they do not like (or disagrees with them) it is the subtle start of a Dictatorship....I am scared. What will happen when simple people disagrees with them?
Jack for Prime Minister. Posted: 2009-08-21 06:23:00 AM
Jack you did the right thing.
Panday Posted: 2009-08-21 06:37:00 AM
I think he should have sued, he might have stepped down faster. Good luck to Mr Maharaj and Mr Warner. Mr Panday was unprofessional and wrong and deserves to be punished.
jack the jack Posted: 2009-08-21 03:54:00 AM
Why should Panday give in to Jack Warner and Ramesh. Panday built the UNC not them. Bas you go boy and you have my full support.
Re: jack the jack Posted: 2009-08-21 2:57:00 PM
You are still wearing blinkers so get them off asap. Have you not seen there is no Opposition as long as Panday is leader. This clearly shows you want Manning to run the country. As long as Bas is Leader, there is not a chance of UNC winning any more elections.
A Jack get hanged Posted: 2009-08-21 07:03:00 AM
A big coward. That's Jack Warner. A big mouther, he vowed a fight to the finish and look how he now has to put his tails between his legs and run away. All hail Panday. He has won. Panday can now bask in victorious glory. He can now continue to insult, abuse and malign people..including Warner. Go for them Bas.
Grow up Posted: 2009-08-21 03:27:00 AM
Grow up you lot!
A real statesman. Posted: 2009-08-21 08:49:00 AM
Jack is full of compassion, and has shown Mr. Panday how considerate he can be.
Okay I won't sue Bas Posted: 2009-08-21 08:56:00 AM
Mr. Warner your credibility just took a nose dive. At the risk of sounding like someone looking forward to seeing a good fight, a lot of people hoped you would shut this annoying man up once and for all. What your decision has done is just annoy the hell out of everyone who were in agreement with you. What you politicians must learn is that everyone looks at you and your behavior and opinions last forever.
Jack the Joker Posted: 2009-08-21 07:57:00 AM
What a joke! The outcome of Warner's much publicised legal battle against Panday was never in doubt. It was a facade. It is now time for Warner to face the UNC disciplinary committee and no new Warner tricks should divert attention from wanton lack of discipline. syl
Jack probably did not have a case.. Posted: 2009-08-21 04:05:00 AM
After all the bravé dangé and gran charge...this? My opinion is that the QC advised Jack his case may have been weak. Worse yet, Warner now created a storm in a teacup. This is a victory for Panday. Warner will become insignificant in the politics of Trinidad very soon. Some time ago, the PNM government tried to make Panday irrelevant by carting him away in handcuffs and charging him. That enterprise fell through. Successful lawsuits alleging slander and libel have not tarnished the political image and standing of Basdeo Panday. This one has made Jack Warner the Boy Who Cried Wolf!
No gain - No pain - Just more deceptions Posted: 2009-08-21 08:09:00 AM
Seems as if no ones' word is good anymore. Not that we wanted a showdown. But this development would have given Mr. Warner the ultimate position he needed to prove to the nation that he can be trusted and a closer step towards development towards foreseeing a progressive country. All he has done is eluded the UNC party of a principle stand. We already knew that they would never be for the entire people of T&T with so much internal rambling and egoistic leadership.

Comedy of errors
I would not sue Bas Posted: 2009-08-21 04:48:00 AM
Jack should listen to BAss: "Go for the Jugular". With this withdrawal he has lost. The Fox lives again.
Not suing? Posted: 2009-08-21 05:49:00 AM
Ridiculous, absolutely, ridiculous!! The man should be sued and charged, for a moment I admired Mr. Warner, not anymore!!!
i won't sue bas Posted: 2009-08-21 11:06:00 AM
Jack and his antics get the media attention that he craves. Now for the the business of running the country- is the JOKE over?
Don't stop - Sue him Posted: 2009-08-21 11:48:00 AM
It's time someone makes Bas stop his unwarranted comments. Sue him.

Panday should be sued Posted: 2009-08-21 09:36:00 AM
I'm writing from Canada- and I'm really fed up of Basdeo Panday. He should be removed from being the head of UNC and properly sued. I am trinidad indian but cannot support the nonsense of panday.
