A planned joint youth camp visit by Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner and Sport Minister Gary Hunt never happened yesterday.
The Sport Minister and the FIFA Vice President-at odds recently over the disbursement of free tickets to Government officials for a World Cup football qualifier-were expected to attend yesterday’s T&T Youth Sports Camp graduation ceremony in Chaguanas.
Hunt never showed up and Warner arrived late.
Corporate communications manager of the T&T Youth Sports Camp, Adrian Raymond, said he was informed earlier yesterday morning that Hunt could not make it.
The youths had planned a grand show for the politicians but they were not disheartened. They stood proudly and collected their certificates for being part of the activities.
The graduates had faced an earlier disappointment when it was learned that Prime Minister Patrick Manning had cancelled visits to two sports camps in Cocoyea and Pleasantville.
Yesterday’s graduation and exhibition games took place at Invaders’ Recreation Ground, Maha Sabha Street, Felicity.
The excitement grew when it was announced by Kenneth Charles, executive chairman of the committee, that the camps would continue throughout the year.
’The children wanted to continue the programme, so a commitment was made to have the programme at least once a week. Those children who are passionate about this can continue,’ Raymond said.
Warner, who arrived after the ceremony, chatted with participants during the games.
Raymond said the camp was set up at 170 venues across the country.
