A police inspector was ambushed and robbed of his loaded service revolver, police identification card and his car as he made his way to the Ste Madeleine Police Station, where he works.
Inside his car was a briefcase containing official police documents, investigators said.
The incident happened along Daisey Road, Ste Madeleine, around 11.15 p.m. on Thursday.
Police said the officer was driving along the lonely roadway, when a car swerved in front of his vehicle. Two men, wearing bandanas over their faces, came out and placed a gun to the officer’s head. He was ordered out of the car.
The gunmen took the officer’s revolver, eight rounds of ammunition, his wallet containing bank cards, driver’s permit, police identification card and $2,800, then drove off in his gold Almera car.
An all-points bulletin has been issued for the vehicle.
In an unrelated incident, around 5.30 a.m., bandits broke into a Chinese restaurant and cleaned out a vault. The men, ages 21 and 29, were later arrested by investigators. They handed over to police a homemade shotgun, a hammer and a bag containing the $38,000 loot.
The men will go on several identification parades before charges are laid, police said.
The men allegedly broke into Goo Fan Hoi Chinese Restaurant at Duncan Village, San Fernando, and forced the manager to open the vault.
A report was made to the San Fernando Police Station and within two hours the suspects were held.
