Labourer, 58, burns to death at home

The last time that Katwaroo Bahadur was seen was on Friday night when he closed the doors to his Pierre Road, Charlieville home at 8 p.m.

Two hours later, neighbours saw his home on fire.

The Fire Service was called as neighbours rushed out of their homes and attempted to put out the fire.

The home of the 58-year-old man who lived alone with his brother Avtar Bahadur, was destroyed.

Bahadur’s remains were found on the ground floor by fire fighters an hour later.

But it was not until 3 a.m. and several calls later that the District Medical Officer (DMO) arrived on the scene to order the man’s remains to be removed.

Avtar Bahadur said his brother was a quiet person who lived a bachelor life. He was also a skilled labourer who occasionally worked with a fabricator in the village.

It is not yet known what caused the fire as Bahadur’s home did not have electricity.
