More calls for Alexis to be freed
Protesters want removal of acting CoP

Residents of Argyle again protested outside the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday, calling for the release of Clint Alexis, who faces two charges of attempted murder in connection with the chopping of British nationals Peter and Murium Greene on August 1.

Alexis reappeared at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Judy Gordon.

Prosecutor William Davis handed over station diary extracts and a search warrant for a raid conducted on Alexis’s home to his attorney, Larry Williams.

As the case continued inside in the court, villagers stood outside, under the watchful eyes of the police, in silent protest. They wore printed jerseys indicating that Alexis was innocent.

His aunt, Inez Barton Omobude, later called for the removal of acting Police Commissioner James Philbert, following his recent announcement that police officials have the right man in custody for the attack on the Greenes.

She travelled from New York recently to be with her family in Argyle. She said British police officials should take over the case, since she remained fearful that the real perpetrator is still on the run.

’As far as we know, as citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, where is our right, where is the statement that says a man is innocent until proven guilty? I think that the public should ask for this man (Philbert) to step down. I don’t think he knows what he is doing,’ Omobude said.

The man’s father, Christopher Alexis, said his son had been in custody for too long and it was time he was freed. ’The villagers crying out, where is justice, and we demand justice this morning, for an innocent man who lock up so long, and we cannot get justice. Free the boy!’ he said.

Argyle resident Claudette Trotman said villagers continue to pray for the safe release of Alexis.

’We might look few out here, but we left the elders home praying because we know in our heart Clint can’t do a thing like that. He can’t orchestrate that kind of thing, and every time we think of Clint, we think of Cleave Alexander, because he is the second Argyle man they trying to frame.’

When did Tobago get so very violent?Lady yes your son is locked up but if he is guilty a court of his peers will decide his fate, why are you in New York and your son in Tobago??? whos watching him and keeping him out of trouble? too many of you leave the island go to America and forget or do not take your kids with you, why should they let him go if he is a suspect. This violence in Trinidad and Tobago has to stop, protest about jobs and young people not having a positive mentor while there so called parents are aboard.

If the man is innocent. Then sombody else is guilty. If that person is known, please please give him up. It will make everybody look good. And get your "innocent" boy out of trouble.
