THE 14-year-old pregnant teen who pleaded guilty on Tuesday to having three grammes of marijuana in her possession, has been grounded by a magistrate who placed her in the care of her grandmother.
She has been ordered by Magistrate Melville Daniel to remain at home until her next appearance on September 4, and to not go anywhere without getting her grandmother’s permission.
Daniel also ordered the teen to give up her cellular phone and to not receive any phone calls.
’Once you are living by your grandmother you have to obey her rules. When you become a woman and have your own place you can do what you want,’ Daniel said.
The grandmother told Daniel, who was sitting in the Second Magistrates’ Court in San Fernando, that she is aware that her granddaughter is three months pregnant.
’I was expecting that because she does not listen to me,’ the grandmother said.
Daniel asked the grandmother if there was anything else she wanted the teen to do while she was at home. The grandmother said she needed her to assist with chores around the house.
A probation officer’s report on the teen has been ordered and is expected to be handed to the court when the matter comes up for hearing again.
At her first appearance in court on Tuesday, her attorney, Ainsley Lucky, told the court that she was holding the marijuana for her 21-year-old boyfriend, who, she said, is the father of her unborn child. He has since been charged with having sexual intercourse with a minor and is on bail in the sum of $50,000.
PC Joaneal Coomansingh, attached to the San Fernando City Police, and other officers were on patrol duty along Sinanan Street in Vistabella, San Fernando, on Friday when the teen, of Pleasantville, was stopped and searched.
She was taken to the San Fernando Police Station where she was charged. She was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $40,000.
