A man employed on Petrotrin’s Pointe-a-Pierre operations died at hospital Tuesday night, four months after inhaling a chemical while on the job.

Marshall John, of Penal Rock Road, died at the San Fernando General Hospital.

His death was announced during a protest by members of the Oilfields Workers Trade Union (OWTU) at the Pointe-a-Pierre roundabout yesterday.

John worked with Jokhan Contractors, one of the companies involved in the gas to liquid plant upgrade.

On May 20, he was taken to Petrotrin’s Augustus Long Hospital after inhaling a toxic gas. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the San Fernando Hospital.

The OWTU said last night that it would await the results of a post mortem before taking action.

On August 11, Petrotrin reported the leak of a line transporting propane to a facility where fuel trucks are loaded. No injuries were reported then.
