Man stabbed to death over Blackberry

resisted bandit:Akeel Mathieson

A man who refused to hand over his Blackberry cellphone to a bandit was stabbed to death on Friday evening.

Akeel Mathieson was leaving an Internet cafe, when a man placed a knife to his neck and demanded his brand new cellphone, police said.

Mathieson, 23, resisted and was stabbed once in the chest. He returned to the cafe and collapsed, police said.

The incident happened around 5.15 p.m. at Lord Street, San Fernando.

Mathieson, a cameraman with Acts 25, a gospel cable channel, lived at Jarvis Street, Vistabella.

His father, George, was too distraught to speak with the media yesterday. ’I cannot go through that again. Everyone is calling and asking what happened. I cannot do that again,’ he said.

Police were, last evening, searching for the suspect, who escaped with his victim’s cellphone.

Homicide detectives are continuing investigations.

People are so hungry for the latest material things that they do not think about taking a life in order to get it. We need to remember we only take our deeds with us to the next life and the tears of those we have harmed will add to our burdensome punishment there.
Your life Posted: 2009-08-30 11:00:00 AM
This is wrong! You stab someone for a doggone blackberry? And you self? you give up your life for a blackberry? Life is worth so much more than material gain.

Trinidad and Tobago are the good decent God fearing people suddenly become the minority? We trinis are so laid back and even cowardice, but I beg of its citizens, the power to take back this land lies with each of us. Every report of A man or A child etc, this should not become just a statistic in our ear but we must remember this is someone's brother, son, family. Come on people its time to take back our country and not be overwhelmed and intimidated by the evil. This is the land named after the Trinity no matter what others think or say, so lets rededicate it back to its heritage and stand up, speak up and drown out the negative and vicious for what is right decent and peaceful one more time.

Return to Hanging..If this criminal is caught tried found guilty, and then hung by the neck until death..He and the others who commit murder, and found guilty will be out of compliance...I will bet he is a seasonsed criminal who have been caught and sentenced time and time again and is just back in business as usual.

By now we all should realize the goverment themself are scared to face these bandits, because in t&t human life has no meaning.don't expect the goverment to take any steps in the choas that is happening on these shores,it's time for citizens to take matters in thier own hand and stand up and fight back.
