ACTING Commissioner of Police James Philbert said yesterday further action will be taken following an enquiry into an alleged involvement of police in a casino theft.
Philbert stated they are currently investigating the incident after ’receiving certain reports’ and, as such, following the outcome of the enquiries, the necessary action would be taken.
’We are going to do what is necessary to deal with corruption within the Police Service,’ said Philbert, who stated the public had its concerns about the integrity of the Police Service, which they intend to address.
The ongoing investigation relates to a robbery at Club Avenue 5, Duncan Village, two Fridays ago.
On Thursday, while addressing the Coast Guard at their 47th anniversary celebrations at Staubles Bay, National Security Minister Martin Joseph called on members of the protective services to restore the public’s faith in them.
Earlier this month, the discovery of drugs and ammunition in the ceiling of the St Joseph Police Station and the subsequent transfer of 38 officers attached to the station further tainted the image of the Police Service.
Investigations into that incident are also ongoing.
