Daren Dixon, the lone survivor of the fire that claimed the lives of seven two Saturdays ago at McBean, Couva, is said to be doing better.
Dixon was diagnosed with acute stress disorder after being treated for a high fever and high blood pressure at the Couva Health Centre following the deaths of his wife Vanessa Chinapoo, 32, and her three children-13-year-old Sarah, ten-year-old Chayim and eight-year-old Moses.
His niece Shantelle Dixon, 22, and her two-year-old nephew Elijah Narine also died in the fire.
Dixon said he tried to save them from the fire but failed.
Clinical psychologist Dr Krishna Maharaj on Monday recommended that Dixon seek counselling to deal with the stress.
His sister Sofia Dixon said that the family had not thought about seeking counselling for her brother because ’he is taking things one day at a time’.
She said: ’He is doing better but remember, is not one person we lost. It is six so we have to take things one day at a time.’
The funeral of the seven was held
last week at the Bethlehem Tabernacle, Chase Village, Chaguanas.
