This is why I am against corporal punishment, from a parent, guardian, or school officials. Many have been calling for corporal punishment to be returned into our schools. Corporal punishment is physical violence and has no place in society. When violators are 'beating the hell' out of the child they have no guidelines in place to determine how and how severe the punishment should be. These parents beat their 11 year old child to the point where he had to seek medical attention. Thanks to the doctor who was not only observant, but also did his duty and contacted the police. No child should be violated in this manner, no matter how naughty he may be. He is a child. This child should not be returned to his parents until there are strict guidelines in place, with supervision. I cannot call for placing him in a child's centre, as those we have are already overcrowded and there are no rooms at the inn. If there are grandparents, or other family members who are trustworthy, then he could be turn over in their care. Sorry, kid, but this is the violent world we now live in, but does not mean that you should grin and bear it. Not all people are violent or abusive, and you might just be able to find a family who will raise you with love and care. I do hope so ...
If no bones were broken leave the people alone. Maybe he needed a beating with a broom. Unless the country turned upside down or went through a Cultural Revolution since I left, if all the parents who beat their kids with brooms in Trinidad and Tobago were arrested, the highway would be empty every day and there would be no more traffic jams. My mother used to beat us with brooms as well and I am soooo thankful for those "Broom licks" today. Praise the Lord for Mamie and her broom!! She never cut us any slack, I mean never!! As a matter of fact me and my brothers and sisters did so much "chupidness" at home, school, and sometimes even in Church, If Mamie had the strength to lift up a Mack Truck, she would have beaten us with that too!! Earlier I read where a teen ager killed a descent up and coming young man for a Black Berry mobile phone, maybe if his mother was beating the Bejesus out of him that lazy good for nothing Bum would not be in police custody today. By the way of the seven children that was “Beaten” by Mamie, not one went to prison, did drugs, or for that matter smoked cigarettes because if she caught us smoking she would have beaten us for that too!! As a matter of fact some of those said arresting Police officers, and a couple of those so called politicians themselves need to be beaten with brooms or better yet, Bull pestle. “Whoop Whoop” upside their behinds!! Good day!! Lloyd C. Johnson US Army Retired, Germany
Well I must say that back in the day my parents would have been locked up for the amount of beatings we got with whatever was at hand. I do not condone physical abuse by any parents on their children and perhaps this boys injuries were bad enough to alert the authorities. I do not believe that it takes two parents to chastise a child. That is wrong. Some sort of correction should be handed out to children when they misbehave, they just cannot get away with bad behaviour. This can go both ways no punishment or excessive punishment can cause the production of todays youthful behaviour which is out of control. All in all parents must not harm their children but they must keep their children in order. Things like burning of hands and deliberate beatings in anger is not justified and will not be tolerated.Children must not be made to think that they can do bad things and run to the law to report trivial matters. The law is their for ABUSE cases not just for a smacking.Lets see what this boy did and what his injuries were.
This is the problem with parents today you keep on saying it is a child. These are the children that grow up to be criminals. Who you rather beat the child the police are the parents? Children of today are not like they were in the 60 & 70 they have no regards for anyone. You have to put the fear of god in them so that they will stay out of trouble and obey their parents.
Oh yes, I remember the three "tight ones" we got but NEVER abused. My parents were two wise ones. Mind you no college degrees but boy were they wise. Both ALWAYS on the same page. All six of us did quite well, never breaking their hearts. Yes woop the kids good but NEVER abuse them please. Do not woop in anger because that's where the abuse resides. Thank God for Ma and Pa. They are gone on to be with the Lord but live on in my heart.
I enjoy you writing. I too was brought up in a big family. A family of 12 and my mother never beat us. All she had to do was give us a look and that alone was a beating with a big stick....Picture this woman taking us to see Carnival and not one of us was ever lost. That was discipline.....These kids now a days not just beating with a broom, they need some boot camp.....I spent 10 years in the US Army and now retired as you and my family discipline brought me through. As you state not one of us ever see a jail cell....We are all professional people and one of my brother had his Phd in Physic.....Thanks goodness for mammie....
Trinidad you need to open your eyes an see what is becoming of our youths....When these kids go bad, they blame the parenting......Here a couple discipline this child and now they end up in jail....For these parents to loose their cool, this child had to do something to warrant this. No parent would watch at a child and just spank them for nothing.......I know to myself, some of these judges did get spank growing up and look at them today.......When I visit my country I am ashame to see what it have become.....You see these kids using some language on the street, the way they wear their clothes, the uniform they wear to school. In my days, I know that was a no no.....We had so much respect for our elders, from the time you see them you are now on your best behavior, so afraid to do something wrong for them to tell your parents......Thank GOD this youth have a house with BOTH parent around....Mr and Mrs. Saroda, BEAT the hell out of him, before the COPS get to him first....When he reach adulthood, bet he would thank you the way YOU brought him up as we are now thanking our parents and grand-parents for what they did for us........
