Warner: Plot to discredit me
'Guidelines in place to prevent meat, alcohol at Nagar site'

The people seen drinking beer and eating bake and shark at the Independence Day fireworks display at the Divali Nagar site in Chaguanas on Monday may have been actors in a plot to discredit his bond with the Hindu community, Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner said yesterday.

Warner said he ensured that all guidelines were followed during preparations for the cultural show and fireworks display that he had sponsored. And security guards were placed at the gates to ensure that vendors were not allowed on the premises with alcohol and meat.

Warner’s response came in a letter to Deokienanan Sharma, president of the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC), the organisation responsible for the operations of the venue, which prohibits alcoholic beverages and meat from being sold or consumed on the premises.

The NCIC believes Warner should have done more to prevent celebrants from entering with alcohol and fish. Sharma said he was aware that alcohol and meat were being sold outside the compound and of reports of patrons drinking beer and eating fish on the Chaguanas premises.

Warner, in his letter, stated that all guidelines outlined by the organisation were followed on the night. He said all food vendors were physically removed from the ground to ensure that the sanctity of the grounds was maintained. Even the food vendors who indicated that they were not selling meat were barred from entering the compound, the letter stated.

’I will not hesitate to add that my detractors are intent on creating confusion between the Hindu community and me, and more so with the National Council of Indian Culture, whose board, I understand, was divided in allowing me use of the grounds,’ Warner wrote.

Warner said the Independence Day cultural and fireworks display would be an annual affair, ’...and not as a Jack Warner affair, but a collaboration between the National Council of Indian Culture and myself’.

During the activities, stalls were set up outside the venue where bake and shark was being sold. And patrons were seen drinking alcohol near a murti of the Hindu god Lord Shiva which overlooks the sacred compound, it was learned.

As he allegedly said he gave instructions and had Security at the gates he is not responsible for others action.Maybe he is right in saying pple want to discredit him.We do not believe he will deliberately do what he is allegedly accused of. There is so much hypocracy here. Here we have avoidenace of beer and meat eating at the Nagar site. But when we go home, we clean the refrigator of the duck, chicken, goat etc.It is like an elephant;goes in the water and takes a bath, then goes on land and rollon the dust. What a mockery of religion. The word Hindu, means that I am a vegetarian.I do not kill to eat.The animals have a soul just like me, and is therefore,my brother. How could you eat your brother.

Do you listen and dance to chutney? They revere meat and rum. Indian movies talk about chicken curry like if it is manna from heaven. The point is RESPECT of holy ground. If you want to eat your meat, who am I to judge? Just do not desecrate my holy ground when you do it. As for the elephant...there is a reason for everything. When they bathe they clean themselves, when they roll in the mud and dust it is to prevent the stinging flies and wasps from stinging them, sucking their blood and spreading diseases. Use another scenario to make your point.
Actors !? Posted: 2009-09-03 01:18:00 AM
WHAT !?! Actors ? I've heard it all now, I just read the Trinidad News for the entertainment value. You people are too much.
Rubbish Posted: 2009-09-03 08:03:00 AM
Warner says all measures were in place to prevent alcohol and meat from entering the facility. Then he says the people who were eating meat and drinking beer were effectively political plants creating mischief. Then he says that meat and beer were being sold outside the facility. The FACTS are, and he agrees, that meat and alcohol were consumed on the premises in full view of ALL present when this was never supposed to happen. It has nothing to do with Warners politics. That is a distraction! The Nagar had never before been desecrated and it is a SHAME that carelessness allowed it this time. Warner needs to apologise not blame others.
The Honorable Mr. Jack Warner Posted: 2009-09-03 08:10:00 AM
Please Mr. Warner, forget these evil doers who wish to tarnish your good name. Politics is a really nasty game and Panday is a professional.I will continue to pray for you and God's blessing, guidance and protection on your family. C.L.M. arima
Jack has nothing to do with this Posted: 2009-09-03 07:14:00 AM
Jack is been set up People want to eat their meats and wipe their mouths dry then enter the nagar, what does Jack has to do with that?
The people that eat the meat and drink the beer should be ashame of themselves. Posted: 2009-09-03 08:16:00 AM
Why is Warner being blame for insensitive people that go to these places knowing its a religious Hindu site and do these insensitive things? I am sure that there was measures in place to inform these insensitive people that meat and alco is not allowed but they still do it and them wants to blame Warner.
I hope it is not the few remaining supporters of Nagessar and Panday to do this stupid thing. Posted: 2009-09-03 04:21:00 AM
It will not be surprise if it is the few remaining supporters of the NONE RamjackG people that did this. I will expect anything from Panday.
That is not Jack's fault, its the nasty people that was sent there. Posted: 2009-09-03 04:27:00 AM
How low could some people go to try and put down a good man? because Jack is doing a good job in the area, they trying to put a stain on the man. If they do not like fact that Jack in gaining and gaining more support, do something better than him to uplift the area so that you to could get the people support.
Jack don't worry, we know you ment well. Posted: 2009-09-03 08:31:00 AM
Jack don't worry my friend, we all know that you are doing a great job and your opponents cannot stand the heat so they will try the CRAB IN A BARREL SYNDROME.
The Diwali Nagar has won a goof friend , Jack Warner Posted: 2009-09-03 08:50:00 AM
Hats off to Warner, admiration and respect for this man. He is the first black, non-hindu, member of parliament who have taken the task to show so much respect for the Divali Nagar. By ensuring that all guidelines are followed, and that meat and alchol are not sold on the premises , Jack will form that bond with the Hindu community. No body can make you look bad, if you do the right things Jack. The people in the Hindu community are no fools, and they will see the goodness of your heart. For this they will respect you and stay close to you and support you. You are a good man Jack. I hope everybody will show respect for this celebration and obey the guidelines, whether they are Hindus or non-Hindus.
Re murti Posted: 2009-09-03 10:47:00 AM
Panday & his foolish cohorts are grasping at straws in this hurricane season while at sea!!Warner is not so callous as to disregard religious sanctity!
The Blame Game Posted: 2009-09-03 12:32:00 AM
Oh the blame game again Warner. There should have been a radius mile having no venders around that. Very poor organiztion I see. Jack wants to be in everything. It good for you.
Why blame Mr. Panday? Posted: 2009-09-03 1:22:00 PM
Mr. Basdeo Panday would never make someone go into the Divali Nagar and encourage them to drink alcohol and eat meat. What foolishness to blame Mr. Basdeo Panday for this act! The blame lies at the feet of the organiser, Mr. Jack Warner. Be a man a take responsibility.
Nagar Posted: 2009-09-03 4:15:00 PM
Jack, you are the only person who really do care about all the people of T&T. You are a breath of fresh air. Keep up the good work.
Re: Nagar Posted: 2009-09-03 4:39:00 PM
LOL! Really now? If Jack was a "breath of fresh air" then I would rather breathe in the beetham air anyday...at least I know it will poison me and it will not claim to be anything else.
We don't blame anyone but the animals Posted: 2009-09-03 3:56:00 PM
At the end of the day nobody can blame one man for another man's choice / stupidity. Nobody force-fed anybody. The animals by their choices have created their Karma - the great thing is that the Universe doesn't need anyone to believe in It's Laws in order for those laws to exist or be effected.
