Tobago cops probe concert that never came off

no show: Tyler Perry

Tobago police have launched an investigation into the cancellation of an Independence day event entitled ’Experience the Concert’ featuring popular US actor and producer Tyler Perry and Pastor Donnie Mc Clurkin.

Hundreds of patrons have lost money they paid for tickets to attend the concert at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago at 7 p.m last Monday. The concert was advertised to be hosted by Perry and a first time appearance of Pastor Mc Clurkin and featuring artistes such as Positive and Winsie-Ann Cuffie, daughter of Pastor Winston Cuffie, along with other ministers. However when contacted they said they were never contracted to perform at the concert.

Manager of the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Anthony Price, told the Express yesterday he was not informed of any concert taking place at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Independence night. One patron, Cathy Ann Slater of Calder Hall, Tobago, said she was very upset over the incident since she purchased two general admission tickets at a popular Canaan Supermarket and still couldn’t get a refund.

’I am very upset over this. I have lost hundreds of dollars especially in this economic time and I may have to start purchasing tickets at the door instead of advance in the future,’ she said.

Pastor Terrance Baynes of the New Heritage Christian Fellowship Church said he purchased a ticket for the concert and was hurt and disappointed.

’I am very concerned at this time for the future of Gospel production in Tobago. I handed over information I received to the Scarborough Police on Wednesday, when I made a formal report,’ he said.

Tickets ranged in prices $200 for general admission, VIP $500 and VVIP $700. Numbers advertised on flyers distributed included 469-2462 and 484-1969 which were in use yesterday while 308-5985 went to voicemail. Tickets were also advertised online at www.cpdsltd.com.

Another Valmon Jones? Posted: 2009-09-03 10:27:00 PM
Remember him? I was a teen then. I believe it was Sam Cooke he was bringing. Well the police should not have very far to go because Pastor Cuffie could talk with them. His daughter Winsie-Ann was on the slate. The police should be able to get some good information from him so that people could get back their hard earned money. On the other hand, Tyler Perry and Donnie should sue the shirts and pants off these "promoters" just to teach them a painful lesson. You DON'T kick people's names around like that.

Shades of Fatman Jones, it took Tobago 40 years to catch up with Trinidad!

Sounds like fradulent advertisement. But to have this incident investigated by the Tobago Police is such a waste of manpower. The Tobago Police should be looking for the killers of Trevor James, the couple who were slain in Bon Accord Estates, the woman who was hacked to death in Bon Accord, and numerous other crimes that have not been solved in Tobago. Looking into why a concert was not held is totally ludacrist. It is not important, just see that the people who paid their money are refunded and that should be the end of it. It is amazing what the Police in Tobago find most important. People's lives and their safety are more inportant than some Tyler Perry concert. Who cares whether the concert comes off or not.
