POLICE fatally shot a car thief and held two of his accomplices in Aranjuez yesterday.
At around 3.30 p.m., residents said officers cornered the thieves in their stolen Nissan Almera near the corner of Neverson Street and Bridge Road, metres away from the Aranjuez Savannah.
Gunplay followed, as one of the thieves allegedly opened fire at the officers.
One of the thieves, said to be from Tunapuna, was hit about the body and died shortly after the shooting.
His identity was unknown up to press time.
Two other men were held in connection with the shooting and the robbery, while a fourth man eluded police at the scene.
The search for that man continues.
Officers from the Barataria Police Station are investigating the incident.
