'Customs broker' run over by truck

A man, said to be a customs broker, was struck dead by a truck yesterday while clearing the contents of a cargo container.

The incident occurred at around 2.30 p.m. at the exit gate of the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation (Plipdeco) Limited.

Police said Vivian Nancoo, 80, of Arima, was struck by the truck when he walked into its path.

The truck drove over his body.

In a statement issued yesterday, Plipdeco’s external relations supervisor Gizelle Crooks said Nancoo was rushed to the Couva Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations are continuing into the incident.

PLIPDECO Safety Posted: 2009-09-09 03:34:00 AM
This is utter maddness, it asks the question, where is PLIPDECO's safety department and what are they doing to mitigate the risk of injury or death in such an environment where the proability of high traffic heavy machinery remains at a high. Shame on you PLIPDECO Safety Department
